Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride Guides and Walkthroughs
Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride is an online role-playing game that is the fifth installment of the Dragon Quest video game series, which is the second installment of the Zenithian Trilogy. The game was created by Chunsoft and then released through Enix Corporation. Dragon Quest V was the first game from the franchise to release on the Nintendo Super Famicom (SFC aka SNES) video game console in Japan in September 1992. Dragon Quest V was the first game in the series that was not released beyond Japan due to the programming issues that affected the industry in the early days.
Dragon Quest V uses the basic gaming mechanics of role-playing in the series’ other games. This involves advancing your level by earning experience points during battle, first-person-first-person-turn-based battles, and equipping armor and weapons. One thing new to this game in the Dragon Quest series is the ability to summon monsters into the players’ party. Monsters can be used to fight and can be upgraded to the level of humans. Monsters can ask for their place in the Hero after battles, provided the group is sufficiently strong. There are 40 monsters capable of joining the party on Super Famicom. Super Famicom version, with 70 of them in the PlayStation 2 remake.

Dragon Quest V Walkthrough – (Chapter 1)
I’ve discussed it on the Dragon Quest V index page, but it’s essential to mention it here. This walkthrough was created to allow the player (the player) the most feasible freedom when playing the game. That means I don’t take your hand all the way. My guide guides you in the right direction and tells you how to take the story. So, exploring dungeons and towns is mostly yours to do.
All puzzles, rare items, or other challenging aspects are addressed within this article. I aim to have you spend the least time studying this guide and the maximum amount of time playing the game.
If you take control of your character for the first time, you’ll be on board a ship. To move the story, you’ll have to communicate with the ship’s entire crew. You’ll also need to talk with Pankraz (your Father). On this ship, there are a whole set of 4 Medicinal Herbs to discover, one Seed of Resilience, and two T ‘n’ T Tickets.
The treasure chests inside the Supply Hold of the ship cannot be opened at this time. Therefore you can avoid the crates. The remainder of the things is found in Barrels or on shelves. Once you’ve spoken with everyone on the ship, it will dock in town. You’ll have to return to your Father to talk with him again.
You’ll get a World Map from your Dad’s friend when you land. You will also be able to take back control of your character. Smash nearby Barrels to earn 10G for your reward, then leave the World Map. After you enter the first battle, Daddy will be there to help you and take you to the next town.
Tips: If you are struggling to find an exit or something in the game, use the shoulders buttons (L and R) to turn the camera!
Walbrook was the initial official town you’ll encounter during Dragon Quest V. In the basement of Bianca’s home, there is an item called a Seed that will give you Strength. There are other things scattered around the town; however, as I’ve said before, I won’t guide you through the entire process using this guide. Dungeons and Towns will be yours to explore thoroughly.
After wandering around town and amassing all possible loot, you’ll want to explore the cave located in the northern part of town to continue the story. In the cave, you’ll have to fight monsters; therefore, it is vital to be vigilant as it’s the story’s beginning. If you require healing, you’ll be able to return to Bianca’s residence and discuss the matter with the Father of her daughter Sancho to stay over at no cost (you need to be injured for Sancho to allow you to rest in his house).
Utilizing the local church to help you save your progress is also a good idea. Inside the cave, there’s a man encased beneath a rock (pictured below). This is the person you’ll need to save for propelling the story. Rejoin the town and talk to the man you helped at the Item Shop If you’d like to receive a reward.
If you’re willing to go on with the story, take a trip back to Sancho’s place and sleep there for the next night. The Father will be present when you get up, and a scene will unfold when you climb the steps. Accept to go with him, and then you’ll embark on a linear journey into the following town. Lundbeck.
Visit the city of Roundbeck and find all the things you can find. To move the story forward, you’ll have to talk with the children playing the cat that lives on the tiny island to the south of the Inn (pictured below). After you’ve spoken to these children, all you have to do is to return to the Inn and talk with Pankraz. This triggers a series of scenes that propel the story ahead.
It’s nighttime, and as Bianca is part of your group, you’ll need to boost her levels just a bit before tackling the next Dungeon. Updated Towers. I recommend that she be at the minimum level 5 before proceeding north towards Uptaten Tower.
NOTE: You can rest free of charge by returning to the hotel in Roundbeck. If you awake at a reasonable time, it’s morning again, and Bianca isn’t in your celebration for the rest of the day. To make this change, simply speak to Bianca at the top level of the Inn. You’ll receive an option to talk into the night (pictured beneath).
Boys playing with a Sabrecat Kitten in Roundbeck (left) and Bianca at the table at The Inn to trigger the event to turn it into a night (right).
Updated Tower on the World Map.
Updated Tower is found due north of Roundbeck. You’re looking for the structure that appears in the above screen shot. If you take the river which runs to the north of Roundbeck you’ll see Uptaten Tower just to the left of the northernmost bridge. When you get into up into the Uptaten Tower area you’ll need to go to the rear of the building before climbing to the top of the ladder. Make use of buttons R + L button to adjust the camera’s angle when you’re having trouble finding your way around the zone.
In the first room in the tower, in the first room Bianca is escorted away by Skeletons. To get her back, you’ll have to look over the tombstones on the left in the next area (pictured in the below image). Don’t be concerned about being lost in this room as it’s pretty linear. There won’t be enemies until the end of the game.
Gravestone which Bianca is trapped under.
In the following two rooms you’ll have to speak to the ghost woman to move the story. There’s a lot of goodies to be found in the master room that she’s in, too. There’s only one way ahead, so follow it once you’re ready to go on. Watch for flashes of lightning to illuminate the dark space. Then, when you spot the king’s ghost follow the ghost from one room to another.
The ghost of the king can be contacted in the tower and accept to help him prior to going back through the door from which from which you came. From now on, you’ll be able to encounter enemies inside the walls of Uptaten Tower. On the top floor to the west , you’ll find an Inn (screen image below) that you should go straight away to find out where it is and move the story forward. Stay in the Inn over the course of a night, and you’ll be in the street with an elderly man.
Update Tower Inn (left).
The entrance for the Tower is now unlocked as is the entrance underground that you can enter via the cave to the to the north of the old man. In the cave’s entry point, there are three treasure chests as well as an end. When you’re eager to continue the story and get the Torch you’ll have to enter the basement, which is located just to the south of the Inn in the tower.
The room that has the flame is actually a huge kitchen that has a plate in the middle. We’ll visit again in the near future The torch is located in one of two pots in the northeasternmost part within the space. The chests are located within the adjoining room… they are able to get them by stepping through the cave’s entry point when you’ve finished your stay in the Inn.
The torch you hold in your hand proceed to the room with ghosts and was dark. It is necessary to open your inventory , and (if your torch is inside the Bag) insert it into the inventory of your character for the Torch to be used. After that, go to the bottom of the pit (pictured beneath) to find two additional treasure chests.
Falls down when I stand to reach 2 treasure chests.
The only thing left to do is defeat the final boss of the dark Dungeon: that of the Haunted Housekeeper. You’ll meet him on the top of the Uptaten tower, inside the same room that you put the Torch into to eliminate ghosts. When you first meet him, you’ll be taken to the kitchen, on top of the plate, from which you’ll be turned into an entrée for your foes.
If you’re not at least level 7 , I wouldn’t recommend you take on the boss since the boss is extremely difficult. You can grind for a bit and then spend the night in the Inn, and then fill the Hero as well as Bianca’s Inventory Medicinal Herbs so that they can utilize them in fight. Return to the boss’s room when you’re ready , and take him onto the balcony for the fight with him.
This boss is the toughest enemy to the moment he decides to utilize Kasap against your players, and then truck them. That is to say, he hits them with the force of a semi-truck. Utilize Bianca’s Dazzle spell on him, as well as Kasap If you already have it. In this stage of the game, your Hero is also equipped with the Heal spell, which is highly beneficial, as well as any Medicinal Herbs to help you those times when your HP drops.
After you’ve defeated the boss, you’ll be rewarded with a brief scene with the queen and the king and an Golden Orb as your reward. Go back to the town (use Chimera Wing should you desire) and you’ll be able to watch a scene in which you are required to take Sabrecat Sabrecat from the children, and you’ll be able to select the appropriate name for it. Continue selecting “No” till you have an appropriate name.
TIP: Un equip everything from Bianca and hand it over to the new member of your party prior to leaving the town. Bianca is gone from your party at the right time, and all items she left behind are lost.
The name of my Sabrecat’s Purrcy.
If you’re ready move the story forward, talk to your Father who is in front at the entrance to the Inn. Take a break and return to Whealbrook You’ll be on an unidirectional path with your Father, just like in all of the instances. When you return to Whealbrook the Father of your child will prohibit you to leave town. There are some things you need to accomplish in Whealbrook in order to progress the story.
1. You can talk to the man in the church dressed as you (actually not required, but that it’s not)
2. Enter the Inn downstairs and talk to the Fairy behind the counter.
3. The Fairy is located in Sancho’s home In the cellar
After you have spoken to the Fairy inside the Sancho’s home there will be a staircase which your Hero can follow to the next stage of game.
Dragon Quest 5 Walkthrough (Chapter 2)
As you enter The Land of Faeries the Fairy who brought you here will lead the visitor into Treacle who will seek your assistance in finding the flute. Honey will join your group after you’ve accepted the assignment and will assume the role of healer at this point! Take a break from the tree you’re in and then cross the lily pads to the point where you came in. There will be a spark on the ground, which you’ll need to grab to purchase the Seed of Life; further to the south of this area is where you’ll find the Inn as well as a shop.
The shop is filled with lots of cool stuff but you’re likely to not be financially able to buy anything right now. But keep returning as you earn more money to pay for upgrades. Go south to the World Map and do some upgrading to give your Sabrecat several levels higher and you too.
Staying in the Inn within Faery Land will cause you to awake at home in Whealbrook. If this happens, just go back to Faery Land by climbing an enchanting golden staircase. When you’ve reached a certain level, the next destination is an underground cave in the western part of the island you’re currently on (pictured in the below image).
Faery Map of the Land.
In the cave, there is the Book called ‘Lots of Locks’. It’s located on the middle staircase towards the lower part of the cave. it’s not difficult to find but finding the enemies in the cave may be difficult if you’re at a low in level. After you have opened the chest using it, you’ll be able to read the Lots about Locks Book you’ll immediately be able to read everything within the pages, and the book disappears.
Now you can unlock the blue doors in the vicinity and take possession of the treasure chests which are located on the floor. Once you have them, you’re finished here. Return to Faery Lea and spend the night in the Inn before making your way on to “island” located at the northern part of the road. It’s highlighted in my screen shot by an orange square.
Once you’ve mastered how to unlock locked doors, you’ll be capable of entering the palace. Before unlocking the front door , it’s recommended to turn left from the entrance and then around the back to the back of the castle. There’s a treasure box inside, along with the Seed of Wisdom.
Winter Palace Sliding Floor Puzzle.
It’s the Winter Palace is the token ice-level in which you slide across the floor . You must run through the wall/obstacles in a proper in order to be aligned with the direction you wish to take your place. The first room you enter (pictured below) you’ll have to go through one or both of the pillars that I have red arrows pointed towards. This will connect you with the staircase that is located to the east. This is the way to the final boss of the underground Dungeon.
If you want to collect all the treasure chests available, there is a flight of stairs in the west. It leads into a different basement, which has three chests. Before taking on the boss in this area, it’s suggested that you’re at least level 10. at which point she’ll become fairly easy to beat. When you’re willing to fight her, you should talk to Dwight who is the guard of the two chests on high up in Winter Palace (pictured below).
Speak to Dwight can trigger the scene, and then a brief battle , following that The Winter queen will show up, and transform into an unstoppable monster. This is the main boss fight. Make use of the Hero’s Buff magic on all your players and let Honey take care of the healing. In addition, you can attack your boss with your Hero or Sabrecat.
Dwight on top of the Winter Palace.
After you’ve defeated Winter Queen, open the two chests in front of Dwight and go back the game to Faery Lea and give the Herald of Spring to Treacle to finish this portion of your game. There’s a short scene , and then you’ll be taken back to the world of reality. Sancho will be waiting for you to stop leaving the house , and inform you that you’ve lost the Blooming Branch.
The way you talk to Sancho isn’t really a big deal It’s possible to come back here in the future and obtain the branch back if you decide to leave the town. Talk to his Father at the parish, and you’ll then be ready to go out of town. Similar to before, you’ll be on rails once you follow your Father’s route up to Coburg Castle.
Once you’ve arrived, your Father will be able to speak with the King and inform you to go on a tour of the castle during the meantime. To progress the story you’ll have to talk to three different individuals, the arrangement doesn’t matter as long as you talk to each one of them. Alongside talking to them, they can also locate the Seed of Magic in the castle (in the room below the chapel).
1. Speak to Prince Harry
2. Chat with Queen Consort
3. Talk to your guard at the top of the stairs (pictured below)
Guard to speak for the sake of advancing the story (left) as well as the hidden staircase that lies beneath Prince Harry (right).
The guard in the picture above can be found by climbing up the stairs to the left of the point where you go into the castle (aka across the hallway of the cathedral). After you’ve talked to all three NPCs that you require then return to King, and talk with him in order to carry on the story.
You will now have to conduct a more in-between with Prince Harry. Talk to Prince Harry and then look at the chest that is in the next room, and then talk to your Father after Prince Harry goes away. It is necessary to repeat the process two times. The third time, look over the chair Prince Harry used to sit in to locate the button that was hidden (pictured in the above image).
Following Prince Harry down the stairs you’ll be witness to an incident in which he is taken hostage. If you attempt to follow him, the goons will leap off the raft and run away. Return to your Father, and inform him of what transpired after that you’ll need to follow him to his World Map.
Tips: Stop at the local shop for weapons to buy your Sabrecat weapon. Iron Claw and Stone Fang are available for purchase here that he can make use of.
Cave north from Coburg Castle Map Location.
Your Father awaits you in a cave to the northeast from Coburg Castle, it’s found close to the north of the Poisonous Lake (pictured in the above image). In this cave, you’ll need to make contact with Pankraz, who is fighting off enemies on a platform. You’ll be able to spot Pankraz shortly when you enter the cave, but you’ll have to take the opposite direction to get there.
After you’ve joined forces with Pankraz and he’s member of your party, all you have to do is save Prince Harry. Find the tile where you saw Pankraz, and take the raft across the tunnel. Pankraz will control your party once you have made it to the next room. You can then release Harry from his prison.
Pankraz teaches you to exit the Dungeon. Instead making the long walk out, take the Raft and then go to the southeast corner of the room that is filled that is filled with water. The same place where you’ve discovered Monster Munchies there’s an exit that takes back to the main entrance. In the process of escaping but, you’ll have to face the Bishop Ladja whom is known as the unbeatable boss of the Dungeon.
Don’t bother trying to defeat Bishop Ladja simply wipe out the floor so that your Father will appear to rescue you. Watch the next scenes unfold, and the battle will continue to play in the future. In order to prevent spoilers from happening, go to the next section of the guide once you’re at your level.
Locations of Locked Doors
In this particular version of Dragon Quest there are only two keys you can find in the game, the Magic Key and the Ultimate Key. My guides will explain how to locate these keys, as well as how you can find all of the doors locked that you can unlock with these keys.
The Side Quest Guides
There are just two quests available in Dragon Quest V, the Knick-Knackatory and it’s Mini Medals side quest. You can start both quests after obtaining the boat in the early stages of the game. Both of these areas become Zoom destinations once you have visited.
Metal Slime Farming Location and Guide
When you’re looking for a way to grind creatures and farming within Dragon Quest games there is nothing more effective than Metal Slimes. Anyone who has played Dragon Quest or the Dragon Quest series will know everything about these creatures since they’re a regular theme in all of the games. In general, Metal Slimes are exceptionally rare and hard to kill however, they offer 10 times more EXP (roughly) than all other monster.
